We were so honored to team up with WTOP radio, Westfield Montgomery and physicians at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Washington Adventist Hospital for our breast cancer awareness event, Pink Fling, on Sunday, Sept. 30!
With help from our volunteers, women in our community were able to get free, expert information and advice on promoting breast health. More than 70 women who stopped by our event took a free breast cancer health risk assessment and sat down with our physicians to discuss the results.
Our physicians also presented two educational panels on mammograms and knowing your breast cancer risk factors. The central message from both panels was clear: healthy women, starting at age 40, should get a mammogram and a clinical breast exam every year. Women who have one or more risk factor should talk with their doctor about when to start screening.
Pink Fling also featured cooking and exercise demonstrations, a fashion show featuring cancer survivors and cancer caregivers, and the opportunity to join our Pink Ribbon Team at our “Pink Photo Booth.” We invite all women to be proactive about their breast health – and all men to encourage the women in their lives to do the same: Take the breast health pledge.
We hope to see you at next year’s Pink Fling!
