Pink Team Encourages Breast Health
We’ve officially drawn the winner of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital’s Pink Ribbon Team raffle, which encouraged breast health. Congratulations to Susan Hughes, the winner of the $1,000 gift cards to Westfield Montgomery Mall!
Hughes, a former breast cancer survivor, joined the team, by taking a breast health pledge, along with several hundred other survivors, caregivers and community members. The pledge asked people to make a commitment to their breast health and to encourage the women in their life to do the same.
Women and men were able to take the pledge through social media, at our hospital, through community events such as Kentland’s Oktoberfest and at Adventist HealthCare’s breast cancer awareness event Pink Fling.
Pink Fling, held Sept. 30 at Westfield Montgomery Mall, in partnership with WTOP Radio, included free breast cancer risk assessments and expert panels featuring Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Washington Adventist Hospital physicians. The panels discussed the importance of annual mammograms and clinical breast exams for healthy women starting at age 40.
