One of the basics for good health, both mental and physical, is a positive living environment. That’s why Adventist HealthCare once again teamed up with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County as a partner for its National Rebuilding Day on Saturday, April 26.
Adventist HealthCare and our friends at AtSite Inc. provided volunteers to make major renovations in the home of the Blanchet family in Silver Spring. The work included overhauling two bathrooms and repairing substantial damage from leaky plumbing in the home’s kitchen. Volunteers also spruced up paint in the rooms and planted flowers in the front of the home.
Skilled workers from local contractors like C.I. Designs Inc. gave their time to help install new bathtubs and toilets, lay tile, update electrical outlets, install drywall, switch out broken appliances and much more. Wegmans and Corporate Food Service Management Inc. generously donated platters of food to keep the volunteers going throughout the day.
This is the ninth year that Adventist HealthCare has partnered with Rebuilding Together Montgomery County, a nonprofit that provides critical repairs to the homes of low-income and elderly residents in our community.
The impact of the work on the residents was evident immediately. Elisabeth Blanchet was speechless when she returned home with her son, overwhelmed by what the volunteers had accomplished. She told project leaders that the Rebuilding Together experience had restored her faith in the goodness of others. It was an inspirational day for everyone involved. We hope that the new surroundings will lead to many years of health and happiness for the Blanchets.
