In my 14 years as a gynecologist, I’ve cared for thousands of older women battling the same issues. They complain of frequent urination, urinary incontinence, or having to get up during the night to go to the bathroom.  They also are bothered by feminine dryness.  Most often, the women who experience these symptoms are postmenopausal or breast-cancer survivors who cannot use estrogen therapy to help their symptoms.

We now have a groundbreaking treatment for these symptoms, the Mona Lisa Touch vaginal laser.  The laser makes very small micro-perforations in the vaginal mucous membrane, delivering gentle energy that stimulates the production of collagen. This causes the underlying layers of tissues to completely regenerate, resulting in the thick, healthy tissue that produces a large amount of moisture and restores vaginal health.

We perform the painless procedure in an office environment without anesthesia. It takes three 3-4 minute sessions, six weeks apart. Patients are able to resume normal activities almost immediately.

The laser, which was developed three years ago in Italy, arrived in the United States in January. More than 20,000 women worldwide have benefited from the treatment. My practice, Rockville Gynecology, was the first group with Mona Lisa Touch laser in Montgomery County.  Since July, I have treated more than 20 women and seen excellent, sometimes life-changing results.

I am excited to be able to offer this non-hormonal treatment option for a common problem in women and, in turn, improve their quality of life. If you are suffering from these symptoms, I encourage you to learn more.
