We’ve all heard that sugar is bad for our health. But did you know that small amounts of chocolate eaten in moderation can actually be good for your heart?

“Chocolate has been shown to potentially lower blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart and brain,” said Sheila Patterson, RD, a registered outpatient dietitian. “By using raw cacao, this recipe cuts down on fat for a quick, heart-healthy snack to conquer your sweet tooth and keep you full.”

Raw Cacao Bites

  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup Medjool dates
  • 2 tablespoon raw cacao

  • Place the walnuts in a food processor or a powerful blender (food processors work better) and blend until they have a crumbly texture
  • Add the dates and the cacao and blend again
  • Make balls with your hands and they’re ready to serve
  • You can store the bites in a sealed container at room temperature or in the refrigerator
